The Orioles' ace has been on a tear since last season.

On paper, it didn't look like the Baltimore Orioles were getting their next ace when they acquired southpaw pitcher Trevor Rogers at the 2024 trade deadline. However, the 28-year-old has been one of the best hurlers in baseball since 2025.

Rogers was 2-9 with a 4.53 ERA over 21 starts when the Orioles got him from the Miami Marlins on July 30, 2024. Baltimore sent infielder Connor Norby and outfielder Kyle Stowers in return, the latter of whom recorded a .917 OPS over 117 games last season. Norby had a .689 OPS across 88 contests.

Rogers struggled after the trade, as he went 0-2 with a 7.11 ERA over four starts to finish the year. But the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder turned it around last season, going 9-3 with a 1.81 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 18 starts. He didn't pitch until May 23 due to a dislocated kneecap that he suffered in the offseason, but he was lights-out for the remainder of the campaign.

Rogers's 1.81 ERA was a franchise record for pitchers who logged at least 100 innings in a season, and he won the Louis M. Hatter Most Valuable Oriole Award in September. The Orioles finished last place in the AL East, but the 2021 All-Star was one of their few positive storylines.

Rogers is now in his last year of team control before hitting free agency next offseason, and Baltimore may want to extend him as soon as possible. The New Mexico native is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA through three starts thus far, and he's walked just one batter over his last two outings.

If Baltimore signs Rogers to a long-term extension and he keeps performing this well for multiple years, he'll be an easy pick for one of the best trade acquisitions in baseball history.

Although Norby and Stowers are young position players who could become core pieces for Miami, it's hard to beat the value of having one of the best pitchers in the game. That's how Rogers has performed since last season, and he'll keep putting his name in the record books if he continues to do so.

Rogers is next scheduled to pitch at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. That game will start at 6:35 p.m. ET.

Up next for the Orioles is a home matchup with the San Francisco Giants on Friday at 7:15 p.m. ET. The game will be on Apple TV.
