Michael King deals, Bogaerts powers as the San Diego Padres extend their win streak to six with a victory over the Mariners.
The San Diego Padres just continue to win games.
On Tuesday, San Diego began a three-game set against the Seattle Mariners with a 4-1 victory at Petco Park to notch its sixth consecutive win.
Michael King got the start for the Padres, and he pitched well again. King went six innings, giving up just one hit on four hits with a pair of walks to earn his second win of the year.
Then, the San Diego bullpen did its job, and we might have finally gotten a glimpse of the 7-8-9 trio.
Adrian Morejon threw a scoreless inning, Jason Adam pitched a scoreless eighth, and Mason Miller shut the door again for his fifth save, throwing another hitless inning, but with only one strikeout this time.
In total, the Padres relievers gave up zero hits with one walk, and the Morejon-Adam-Miller run might be a sign of things to come.
Bryan Woo got the start for Seattle, and he went seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits in a solid effort, although he registered the second loss of the season.
The Mariners got on the board in the second inning with Dominic Canzone hitting a sacrifice fly.
However, Fernando Tatis Jr. singled in Ramon Laureano and Xander Bogaerts had a two-run single in the bottom of the third.
Bogaerts then had another RBU single in the bottom of the eighth for some insurance.
Manager Craig Stammen changed the lineup once again, and after two games of Tatis at second base, Tatis was back in right field.
Ty France started at first base, Gavin Sheets at designated hitter, and Luis Campusano at catcher with Jake Cronenworth hitting in the nine-spot, so Stammen's ongoing lineup switches continue.
Prior to the game, the Padres placed Nick Pivetta on the 15-day IL, and they called up Alek Jacob.
Matt Waldron was also at Petco Park, and he is expected to start in Pivetta's place on Friday.
Jackson Merrill continued his hot streak with three hits and a pair of runs scored, moving his hitting streak to four games.
The top of the order also did well, as Laureano, Tatis and Merrill combined for six hits with four runs scored, although Manny Machado went hitless on Tuesday.
The Vedder Cup continues on Wednesday as the Padres look for their seventh straight win.
It will be Emerson Hancock for Seattle with Randy Vasquez for San Diego.
