Jake Cronenworth was named NL Player of the Week after hitting .464 with 13 hits as the Padres continued their late-season surge.
Jake Cronenworth's late-season surge has earned the San Diego Padres infielder some recognition from Major League Baseball.
Cronenworth was named National League Player of the Week on Monday after putting together a huge seven-game stretch for a Padres team charging toward the postseason.
Cronenworth's 13 hits led the majors during the award period. He also posted a .516 on-base percentage, .786 slugging percentage and 1.302 OPS.
The honor comes after Cronenworth punctuated his week with one of his best games of the season Sunday.
He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI as San Diego completed a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins with a 7-3 victory.
It was the fourth multi-homer game of Cronenworth's career and his fourth game with at least five RBI.
Cronenworth also recorded five multi-hit games during the week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. He is batting .400 with 16 hits, two home runs and nine RBI during the streak.
The award is the second Player of the Week honor of Cronenworth's career. He previously won it in June 2021.
It also continues an impressive run of individual recognition for the Padres.
Jackson Merrill was named NL Player of the Week last week, making Cronenworth the second straight San Diego player to receive the honor.
According to MLB, it's the first time Padres players have won the award in consecutive weeks since Eric Hosmer and Joe Musgrove did it in April 2021.
Cronenworth is the fourth Padres player to earn the award this season, joining Merrill, Gavin Sheets and Fernando Tatis Jr.
More importantly for San Diego, his hottest stretch of the season has arrived at an ideal time, with the Padres adjusting their rotation as they push toward the postseason.
Cronenworth entered Monday riding a 10-game hitting streak as the Padres prepare for the final week of the regular season with a postseason berth within reach.
