Pete-Crow Armstrong ignited a four-run seventh, powering the Chicago Cubs over the San Diego Padres in Game 2 of the series at Petco Park.

The San Diego Padres survived a scare on Monday night in the first game of the three-game set against the Chicago Cubs at Petco Park.

Unfortunately, Tuesday night was all Chicago early on.

Former Miami Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera, who came to Chicago in an offseason trade, moved to 3-0 with 5.2 innings, giving up three runs and striking out seven batters in another strong outing.

The Padres used Walker Buehler, but he went just 4.2 innings, giving up two runs and walking three batters while throwing 92 pitches.

The Padres ended up losing the game 8-3, but it was Kyle Hart who was the losing pitcher as he gave up two runs on one hit in 0.2 innings, marking Hart's first loss of the season.

Chicago took a 2-0 lead in the second on a Dansby Swanson double, and the Padres tied it up as Xander Bogaerts had a home run and Ty France drove in Bogaerts two innings later.

Chicago would take the lead back as Nico Hoerner had a two-run double in the sixth inning. Luis Campusano's hot start continued as he had an RBI single in the sixth, but that was the last Padres run.

The top of the seventh inning unraveled as Chicago scored four runs. Alex Bregman started it with an RBI single, and Pete Crow-Armstrong had a three-run home run off of left-hander Wandy Peralta.

Manny Machado didn't play after leaving Monday's game due to "precautionary reasons," according to manager Craig Stammen, and Jake Cronenworth got the start at third base.

The Padres mustered just six hits with France registering two of them as his strong play continues, and Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr. combined for zero hits with three strikeouts in this game.

The Padres bullpen also used David Morgan and Ron Marinaccio, who threw the final two innings and gave up just one hit and one walk in a scoreless appearance.

The Padres finish the series in a day game on Wednesday, and Matt Waldron (0-1, 12.46 ERA) takes the mound against Jameson Taillon (1-1, 4.55 ERA).

The Padres will then have a day off before hosting the Chicago White Sox for three games, and after that, they begin a three-game road trip against the San Francisco Giants before coming back home in a bit of an odd scheduling outcome.

Let's see if Waldron can respond after two rough outings so far.
