Trevor McDonald stifled the San Diego Padres bats in a dominant season debut as the Giants won the first game of the series.

The San Diego Padres saw the four-game losing streak come to an end on Sunday with a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The Padres then headed to the Bay Area to begin a three-game road trip against the San Francisco Giants, but it seems most of the offense remained in San Diego as the Padres lost 3-2 on Monday night.

The Giants entered with six straight losses, but Trevor McDonald looked excellent for San Francisco.

McDonald made his season debut on Monday, and he threw seven innings, giving up just one run on two hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts.

McDonald had just been recalled from Triple-A, and the only run he allowed was in the top of the first when Jackson Merrill hit a home run to center field.

It was a short lead for San Diego, and Randy Vasquez gave up two runs in the bottom of the first. Casey Schmitt hit a solo home run and Rafael Devers drove in Luis Arraez to give the Giants a 2-1 lead.

Devers drove in another run via a sac fly in the sixth, and Vasquez left the game giving up three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings, although he was tagged with his first loss of the year.

Kyle Hart recorded one out, Bradgley Rodriguez looked elite once again, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, and Wandy Peralta finished the game for San Diego with just one hit and one walk.

However, the offense was nowhere to be found.

After Merrill's first inning home run, the Padres aw Merrill hit a single in the fourth, and the other run came via a Ramon Laureano home run in the ninth inning.

Fernando Tatis Jr. was in the lineup after having Sunday off, but he had three strikeouts in four at-bats, and the Padres struck out 10 times total in the game.

Jake Cronenworth's average dropped to .144 and Freddy Fermin's to .161, so the bottom of the San Diego lineup continues to look weak.

Things don't get much easier for San Diego, either. On Tuesday, Walker Buehler (1-2, 5.40 ERA) takes the mound, and he went just 4.2 innings last time out against the Chicago Cubs and 2.2 innings the time before that.

Logan Webb (2-3, 4.30 ERA) is on the mound for the Giants, and the Padres will try and find some offense after a few rough games at the plate.
