The San Diego Padres couldn't touch Milwaukee starter Jacob Misiorowski, but Gavin Sheets came up big in the ninth.

The San Diego Padres rallied again in the ninth to beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-1, scoring all their runs with two outs on a three-run homer by Gavin Sheets.

The wasn’t much to write home about early on, though, as San Diego ran into the buzzsaw named Jacob Misiorowski. The Milwaukee starter strike out ten hitters in seven innings while allowing four hits and walking none, and according to an ESPN/AP report he threw 40 pitches of 100 mph or more, which was the third straight game in which he’s done that.

The lone run in the game was scored by the Brewers off Michael King in the fifth as Sal Frelich singled, Joey Ortiz followed with a bunt hit, and two hitters later Brice Turang got the run home on a force out.

Misiorowski had retired 14 hitters in a row at the end of the seventh, but when he went to the mound for the eighth he motioned to his right leg after a warmup pitch and was removed. This game wasn’t the first time this happened to Misiorowski, as he had a similar incident on May 1 against the Washington Nationals when he was removed after 5-1/3 innings of no-hit ball due to a right hamstring cramp.

The Padres were happy to get him out of the game, but they couldn’t capitalize in the eighth off reliever Aaron Ashby, who struck out two more San Diego hitters. The Pads were down to their last out in the ninth against Abner Uribe when the offense finally woke up and rallied.

Miguel Andujar started things off with a single to center, and Xander Bogaerts walked to put a second runner on. Sheets then hit a home run to get three runs home and give the Padres their first lead of the game.

That left it up to Mason Miller to close things out, but Miller got things off to a nervous start when Luis Rengifo lined a single to left. But he quickly settled down to strike out two of the next three hitters to earn his 13th save of the season as the Padres evened up the series at one game apiece.

The winner was Jason Adam, who continues to be outstanding in relief, but both King and Jeremiah were also excellent as the Padres pitched a brilliant game.

San Diego gets a shot at winning the series tomorrow afternoon as they send Griffin Canning to the hill against Kyle Harrison for the Brewers.
