Baseball fans in Mexico will be treated to another Mexico City Series early in the 2026 season, as the MLB announced Wednesday that the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks will play a two-game series in April.
The two teams will face off on April 25 and 26 at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú Béisbol in Mexico’s capital. It’s the third time that the MLB will host a series in Mexico as part of MLB’s WORLD TOUR, with a series between the Padres and San Francisco Giants in 2023 and between the Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies in 2024. The Diamondbacks will be returning to Mexico for the first time since playing in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2019 against the Rockies.
It’ll be the first MLB games played in Mexico since the 2024 season. Though they didn’t play in Mexico that season, the Padres did play in South Korea against the Los Angeles Dodgers to open up their 2024 season, but they haven’t played an international game since.
“We are honored to bring Padres baseball back to Mexico City for another unforgettable series in 2026. Our debut there in 2023 was historic, and this return reflects our continued commitment to celebrate our bi-national fan base and help grow the game of baseball internationally,” said Padres CEO Erik Greupner.
“We are excited to play once again at beautiful Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú in front of passionate Mexican baseball fans and our faithful fans who will join us on the journey to this world-class city and ballpark.”
Though the Padres won’t have any Mexican players out on the field during the season, barring any changes this offseason, the Diamondbacks will have some Mexican representation on the field. Outfielder Alek Thomas has Mexican heritage from his mother's side of the family and will certainly circle the dates on his calendar.
With a large Hispanic fanbase, the Padres' return to Mexico has been much anticipated. Padres fans in Mexico will be hoping to see their team come out with two wins in the early-season series.
Tickets for the series will go on sale to the public on January 19th.
