Fernando Tatis Jr. launched a 465-foot blast as San Diego withstood a late Colorado rally at Coors Field to extend their scorching win streak to eight games.
The San Diego Padres were able to win their 8th straight game with an 8-7 win against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Monday night.
The Padres jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Manny Machado hit a home run in the first, but TJ Rumfield tied it up in the bottom half of the inning via an RBI single.
Then, the Padres scored four runs in the second. Jake Cronenworth had an RBI single, Freddy Fermin hit a sacrifice fly, and Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run home run 465 feet to straight away center field to continue his unreal surge.
Jackson Merrill's RBI single in the third made it 6-1, and things looked good. However, the Rockies scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined, and Ty France gave the Padres a 7-5 lead via an RBI single in the seventh.
Cole Carrigg added a solo shot for Colorado and Damien Harris answered back with an RBI double to make it 8-6 Padres in the eighth.
And, Connor Norby drove in a run with a double in the eighth to put the Rockies one run away from a tie game.
However, Mason Miller came in and struck out two batters to notch yet another save.
Casey Mize got the start for San Diego, and he went five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits to notch his second win.
Kyle Hart had another rough outing, allowing three runs on one hit with two walks in just 0.1 innings, and Bradgley Rodriguez allowed a run on two hits in 1.2 innings.
Adrian Morejon allowed his first run since September 6, although his ERA is still under 3.00 on the season.
The Padres offense scattered 13 hits, with France and Merrill each recording three hits and everyone in the starting lineup except Luis Campusano registering a hit in the game.
A total of seven Padres had an RBI with Tatis driving in two runs, and it was another team effort as San Diego continues to find ways to win games.
The Padres will look for their ninth straight win as the series continues on Tuesday in Colorado. Walker Buehler (8-6, 4.61 ERA) will take the mound for San Diego as Ryan Feltner (5-10, 5.88 ERA) will start the game for Colorado in the second of a four-game set in Denver.
The Padres are red hot, and they are trying to continue.
