ESPN hands the San Diego Padres' fresh City Connect uniforms a dismal 'D,' and fans are also split on the new uniforms.

The San Diego Padres have had plenty of different uniforms and color schemes over the past couple of decades.

The Padres' orange and blue and pinstripe look was their primary scheme during the year they went to the World Series in 1998.

The Padres then rocked the blue and tan look, with a tough to feature the sandy beaches of the city.

Then, the Padres made fans happy by going back to the brown and yellow, a tribute to the 1980s team that also went to the World Series.

The previous City Connect uniforms featured neon colors and a vibrant look.

On Thursday, the Padres revealed the new Nike City Connect uniforms, and the color scheme and theme are much different than before.

The new jerseys and uniforms prompted mixed reviews from the fans, so it remains to be seen how many of these we will see at Petco Park throughout the season.

The Padres new uniforms rock a La Catrina patch, which is a tribute to the Dia de los Muertos to commemorate the local tradition in the area.

ESPN writer David Schoenfield gave grades for the eight new City Connect uniforms, but he had the grade for the Padres as a D, although he says it depends on how much you loved the old uniforms.

"The original Padres City Connect jerseys were a love 'em or hate 'em affair and I happened to love them. And, it seemed, so did Padres fans (at least the ones who didn't hate them), because you certainly saw a lot of them in the stands. The new one? Kind of feels like a jersey the Marlins might wear. Give me a taco patch, a nod to the San Diego Zoo, a surfing logo, something that connects more immediately to the city," Schoenfield said.

Perhaps the part fans love most is the white hat with a blue bill and blue and orange SD letters, which reminds everybody of the throwback days before the turn of the century.

This is the official reveal from the Padres.

It isn't only the fans who are divided, but the players as well. Star third baseman Manny Machado was asked about the new uniforms, and he replied, "They're alright."

Jackson Merrill told ESPN that the patch on the sleeve is "just so cool," so it is up for everybody's opinion on whether or not the jerseys resonate.

The Padres first wore the new City Connect jerseys on Friday night against the Colorado Rockies.
