The San Diego Padres have been rebuilding their farm system after a series of trades by GM A.J. Preller the have depleted the system, but there are still plenty of prospects to watch. Baseball America covers the Top 30 extensively, but this week they released a list of ten other prospects who just missed the list but are still well worth talking about, so let’s highlight a few of the more promising ones that J.J. Cooper covered in his list.
Riley Pint, RHP (36)
Pint isn’t a typical prospect. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2016 draft, and the Padres took a flyer on him after a pair of unsuccessful cameos with the Colorado Rockies in 2023 and 2024. His bugaboo has been control throughout his development, but Pint has flashed as a reliever, according to Cooper, so the hope is that switching to an organization with a successful track record of developing pitchers could help jump start his career.
Nick Schnell, OF (37)
Schnell is another older player who makes this list in part because the Padres are rebuilding their farm system. The Tampa Bay Rays made him their first-round pick back in 2018, and Schnell has turned into a reliable Triple A outfielder with plenty of power to go with some serious strikeout issues. He hit 23 home runs in the Washington Nationals farm system in 2025, but he also struck out prodigiously at a 31 percent rate, so he’s basically a flyer and a potential depth piece to see if the Padres can get his power to play.
Jackson Wolf, LHP (40)
Wolf is yet another Padres prospect who’s made the majors, although he only made one start for San Diego back in 2023. Other than that, he’s had success at the Double A level, but Triple A has been an entirely different story, as he gets shelled whenever he sets foot in the Pacific Coast League, according to Cooper.
It’s known as a hitter’s league, and Wolf’s numbers definitely bear that out. He has a 10-12 record with a 6.21 ERA in 193 Triple A innings, so he needs to crack the code at the next level to get another shot in San Diego. Wolf does have a varied repertoire with plenty of pitch shapes, but his big problem is that nothing in his arsenal is above average, so he gets easily squared up when he’s in the zone but not on the edges.
