Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, opened up about his future in the sport.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the better teams in baseball this season, with the only goal of winning the World Series.

Philadelphia reached the Fall Classic back in 2022, but they fell short to the Houston Astros. This group has been trying to get back, and this time, finish the job.

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has built a team full of star players and talented guys, armed for a postseason run. Philadelphia will again make the playoffs this year, barring a late-season collapse.

His contract with the Phillies runs through the 2027 season, but he is expected to receive an extension from owner John Middleton. But Dombrowski, 70, knows that his time in baseball isn't going to last forever.

“There may be a day where John might not like me,’’ Dombrowski said. “But this will be my last full-time job. I love it here. I want to just keep going.’’

Before he calls it a career, the veteran executive is hoping that this group can win a title before it's too late. Dombrowski wants to win for Middleton, who he has tremendous respect for.

“I just hope that we can bring John the pleasure of a World Series championship because he gives us everything, and gives all the support that you can possibly have from an owner to win.’’

With the Phillies, Dombrowski has seen a record of 529-421 during the regular season. In the playoffs, Philadelphia has gone 21-17, including the trip to the World Series.

Philadelphia is always competitive, stemming from the leadership of Dombrowski. He has helped build this team into a winner again, and now the hope is another title for the franchise.

But don't expect Dombrowski to retire anytime soon. The veteran is still passionate about what he does, and winning is in his blood.

“If I didn’t have the same excitement and passion for it, I can’t imagine doing it,” Dombrowski said to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. “I don’t know how you could do the job properly. To me, it’s just as exciting as ever. You’re in a pennant race and on the edge of your seat every single day.”

Dombrowski has been around for a long time, spending over 40 years as an executive. But the passion is still there, and that drives him to keep building a competitive team each season.

The Phillies should be a tough out in the playoffs this year, assuming they can clinch a spot. With a veteran group of stars and a strong starting rotation, this is a team that nobody will want to face.

And if they can reach the mountaintop, Dombrowski's fingerprints will be all over the success of the team.
