The Philadelphia Phillies should not allow Alec Bohm's sudden surge to fool them.
The Philadelphia Phillies have won eight games in a row, and somehow, some way, Alec Bohm has been at the center of it.
The much-maligned infielder went 2-for-4 with an RBI during the Phillies' 12-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. He hit a game-winning two-run triple in extra inning against the Cardinals the night before.
For the month of August, Bohm is slashing .378/.420/.527. He has homered just once, but he has racked up 16 RBI and has struck out just four times in 20 games. By contrast, Bohm fanned 19 times in 24 contests last month.
Believe it or not, Bohm has collected 75 RBI on the year, which is tied for Bryce Harper for No. 2 on the squad. Kyle Schwarber is at the top with 77.
The former first-round pick is batting a blistering .353 with runners in scoring position in 2026, which explains his surprising RBI total.
Considering Bohm is slated to hit free agency this offseason, his second-half surge could have some people thinking that the Phillies should re-sign him.

One good month should not cause Philadelphia to forget about how frustrating of a player Bohm has been for years. It should not remove the memories of how much of a liability he has been at third base (now, he is over at first base, and he hasn't been great there, either).
Bohm has been viewed as a trade candidate for a couple of years now, and just about everyone has been prepared to run him out of town for the better part of the last 12 months.
The Phillies acquired Luis Arraez at the trade deadline to man second base, which shifted Bryson Stott over to the hot corner. It also resulted in Harper moving to right field to accommodate Bohm, who moved across the diamond.
Re-signing Arraez should be a priority. So should getting Harper back to first base. That means saying goodbye to Bohm over the winter.
Yes, it's great that Bohm has gone on an incredible hot streak at a perfect time, but Philadelphia needs to keep the bigger picture in mind.
