Philadelphia Phillies prospect Aidan Miller just took an unexpected step.

The Philadelphia Phillies entered the 2026 MLB campaign hoping Aidan Miller would compete for a starting job somewhere on the roster, likely over at third base with Trea Turner manning shortstop.

Instead, Miller hasn't played all year.

The top prospect had a back issue resurface in Spring Training, and it has resulted in Miller being sidelined for the entire season.

Until now.

Miller will finally see some action for Low-A Clearwater on Saturday, a sight for sore eyes for a Phillies organization that has been raked over the coals for its poor farm system.

Baseball America ranked Philadelphia's system 29th in the league earlier this year, and Miller being completely M.I.A. for most of 2026 certainly didn't help.

But now, the 22-year-old is back and ready to re-establish himself as an elite minor-league bat for the Phillies.

Last year, Miller slashed .264/.392/.433 with 14 home runs and 42 RBI over 526 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A. He also stole 59 bases, displaying his tremendous versatility offensively.

Now, the former first-round pick needs to gather his bearings.

Obviously, there isn't much time left in the minor-league season, but Matt Gelb of The Athletic has reported that Philadelphia does intend to play Miller in the Arizona Fall League this October if all goes according to plan.

It will be interesting to see what the Phillies do with Miller this offseason.

His trade value has surely dipped after such an injury-plagued year, so you would have to think they plan on heading into 2027 with Miller in tow.

Turner has been abysmal at shortstop this season, so perhaps Philly could try and put Miller at short and shift Turner to the outfield next spring?

Another possibility — if the Phillies lose Luis Arraez in free agency — is moving Bryson Stott back over to second base and then sliding Miller over to third. Alec Bohm is almost surely a goner this offseason, so the hot corner will be vacant.

There are many scenarios that could play out for Miller, but obviously, the key is for the Dunedin, Fl. native to stay healthy.
