The Philadelphia Phillies have revealed the starting pitchers for their crucial series with the Atlanta Braves.
The Philadelphia Phillies are getting ready for a massive series against the Atlanta Braves this weekend.
The two teams will begin a three-game series, with the National League East crown on the line. Atlanta owns a multi-game lead over the Phillies, but this series will give Philadelphia a chance to eat into the deficit.
Philadelphia and Atlanta just played a four-game set last weekend, with the two teams splitting. This series will be the final matchup between the teams, giving each a chance to make a real statement.
The Phillies have been playing catch up all season kong, and this could be their opportunity to get back in the race. And with just a few more weeks left in the regular season, it's now or never for Philadelphia.
Phillies vs Braves Probable Pitchers
Friday, September 11: RHP Aaron Nola vs LHP Chris Sale
To open the series, Philadelphia will hand the ball to Nola, who has been excellent over his last eight starts. The right-hander hasn't allowed more than three runs in an outing since July, showing real progress on his performances.
For the year. Nola has a 4.76 ERA over 29 starts. If he can continue his strong outings, the Phillies could be in good shape here.
Sale will go for the Braves to open the series, putting his 2.10 ERA over 25 starts on the line.
Saturday, September 12: LHP Jesus Luzardo vs RHP Tyler Mahle
Luzardo gets another crack at the Braves after shutting them down in his last start. The left-hander fired a complete-game shutout, the first of his career, helping the Phillies grab a massive win.
Since August, Luzardo has been lights out, posting some of the strongest numbers from a pitcher across the league. For the year, the left-hander has a 2.87 ERA over 29 starts.
For Atlanta, Mahle will get the ball and he has registered a 4.05 ERA in 24 starts this season.
Sunday, September 13: RHP Andrew Painter vs RHP Grant Holmes
The Phillies will turn to Painter in the finale, and the right-hander will be trying for better results this time around. In his last outing, Painter allowed five runs on 10 hits over five innings against the Astros.
For the year, Painter owns a 5.71 ERA over 22 appearances (20 starts) this year. The right-hander will need to pitch better against a tough Atlanta offense.
