The Philadelphia Phillies could have a surprising trade candidate on their roster.

The Philadelphia Phillies absolutely need to shake things up this offseason. We all know it. But with the Phillies having very limited capital in their farm system and hardly any financial wiggle room, that will prove difficult.

Philadelphia has made the playoffs five years in a row, but it seems as if the Phillies have gotten the most they possibly can out of this current core.

They need some new blood, and that could mean parting ways with some surprising players. And no; I'm not talking about Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber.

One name that could potentially surface in trade speculation is second baseman Bryson Stott, who is entering his final year of club control and surely has value around baseball.

It's easy to see the positives in Stott. He is a very good defender capable of playing several infield positions. He was also one of Philadelphia's more consistent bats throughout most of the 2026 campaign, and he went 27-for-27 in stolen bases this season.

But you can always view the other side of the argument.

Stott isn't that young anymore. He's 29, so he's hardly ancient, but at this point, he probably just is who he is: a decent middle infield bat who is good defensively, but not quite good enough to win a Gold Glove.

Additionally, Stott lacks pop, topping out at 15 home runs back in 2023. He managed just 10 homers this year, and he has totaled 59 across five big-league seasons.

Finally, he's one of the few players on Philadelphia's roster who could genuinely fetch something interesting in a trade, and with the Phillies desperately needing to rebuild their farm system, nothing should be ruled out entirely.

Philadelphia could, in theory, re-sign Luis Arraez to play second base and move Stott elsewhere. Assuming the Phils let Alec Bohm walk, that would then open up a hole at the corner, but perhaps the Phillies think Aidan Miller could take over there next year.

This really is just about finding value where you can.

Stott is a solid player, but he is hardly indispensable, and he won't be the difference in Philadelphia winning a World Series. He certainly wasn't this season.

The Phillies are going to have a difficult time retooling their roster this winter because of how they are structured. Trading Stott might be one of the clearest paths to doing so, although it's far from the only thing Philadelphia may need to do.
