Philadelphia Phillies president Dave Dombrowski spoke on manager Rob Thomson in the midst of the team's brutal start.

I'm not sure anyone felt the Philadelphia Phillies would have one of the worst records in baseball nearly a month into the regular season, but here we are.

The Phillies are just 8-15 following their loss to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, marking their seventh straight defeat.

A litany of issues have plagued Philadelphia over these first several weeks, and now, some are wondering about Rob Thomson's status as manager.

However, team president Dave Dombrowksi put those concerns to bed after the Phillies' most recent loss, saying that Thomson's job is safe ... for now.

“Rob Thomson's been a good manager for us for since [2022],” Dombrowski said, via MLB.com. “We always look at everything that's taken place, but no, that’s not being pondered at this point."

So when could Dombrowski begin to ponder it?

“Generally, I've said about 40 games of the season is when you start to say, ‘OK, where are we shaping up? Guys have had enough time.’ But there's no magic in that number. Sometimes it's a little bit more, sometimes it's a little bit less," Dombrowski said.

So perhaps if the Phillies are still struggling in late May, then Dombrowski will think about pulling the trigger, but at the same time, he understands that he shares a significant portion of the blame here, too.

"They're not happy with their performances. Shoot, I'm responsible for putting the club on the field, so I'm not happy with the way it's going," he added. "But I think you just balance that all the time on a daily basis."

Philadelphia largely stood pat during the offseason, much to the chagrin of the fans who wanted to see the club make a big move or two.

The Phillies did re-sign Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto, which cost quite a bit money. They also attempted to land Bo Bichette in free agency, but he opted for a shorter-term, higher-AAV deal with the New York Mets. In hindsight, Philadelphia may have actually dodged a bullet there.

But otherwise, the Phillies are essentially running it back with the same team as last year, for better or for worse. Philadelphia has posted 95-plus wins two seasons in a row, but it also lost in the NLDS both of those campaigns.
