The Philadelphia Phillies have received a major update in a potential move for star outfielder Byron Buxton.
The Philadelphia Phillies received positive news on Saturday as Minnesota Twins star Byron Buxton is willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the Phillies.
Earlier in the season, Buxton denied trade rumors, but he has now opened up the possibility of a trade to Philadelphia, his preferred destination.
The Phillies are in pursuit of another outfielder, and Buxton could be a great fit for the roster. He fits the position of need while also being an upgrade for their lineup, as he's slashing .272/.330/.563 with 25 home runs, 16 doubles, 45 RBIs, 57 runs, and an .893 OPS.
He is also a former Gold Glove winner and would fit well in the outfield next to Brandon Marsh.

Schwarber is having a phenomenal season, slashing .248/.361/.547 with a league-leading 33 home runs along with 11 doubles, 61 RBIs, 60 runs, and a .908 OPS. Harper has also played at a high level, hitting .253/.359/.488 with 21 home runs, 19 doubles, 60 RBIs, 61 runs, and an .847 OPS.
Adding Buxton to the lineup would add more power, making them a dangerous team come October.
Philadelphia got off to a slow start in the 2026 season, which led to the firing of manager Rob Thomson. Don Mattingly was named interim manager and has helped the Phillies turn things around; they now hold a 56-48 record and are 5.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East.
