Philadelphia Phillies general manager Dave Dombrowski opened up honestly about the team's situation with Bryce Harper.
Heading into the offseason, there have been some questions about Bryce Harper's future with the Philadelphia Phillies. After some harsh comments from general manager Dave Dombrowski, rumors began swirling about Harper potentially leaving town.
Despite those rumors, things seem to have calmed down between the two sides.
Back in October, Dombrowski spoke out about Harper's down season in 2025. He offered a murky opinion about the star's future.
“He didn’t have an elite season like he has had in the past," Dombrowski said. "And I guess we only find out if he becomes elite or he continues to be good. … Can he rise to the next level again? I don’t really know that answer. He’s the one that will dictate that more than anything else.”
A new update has been provided about where the two parties currently stand with each other.
During the GM Meetings in Las Vegas, Dombrowski spoke out honestly with a brief and honest update about Harper's future with the Phillies.
“We had a nice conversation,” Dombrowski said. “Everything went well.”
Do those comments mean that everything is water under the bridge? Not necessarily, but at least the two sides seem to have ironed things out following the general manager's previous comments.
Harper played in 132 games for Philadelphia during the 2025 campaign. He hit 27 home runs to go along with 75 RBI, while also slashing .261/.357/.487.
Obviously, those numbers are not as good as many have come to expect from the 33-year-old star. Harper's future is a bit of a question. Can he get back to being a franchise caliber player?
No one knows the answer to that question at this point in time. However, the overreaction to starting instant trade rumors was a bit over the top. Harper is almost certainly a lock to be back in 2026.
It's much more feasible to wonder about the future of other players who were on the 2025 roster. Most notably, Kyle Schwarber is a big bat who could be missing from the Phillies' lineup next season depending on how his upcoming free agency shakes out.
Expect to see the Harper rumors die off following these most recent comments from Dombrowski. It sure sounds like Philadelphia is back on the same page with Harper moving into the future.
