Phillies Named Best Fit for Potential $100 Million Star

The Philadelphia Phillies have been named the top fit for a potential $100 million star this offseason.

The Philadelphia Phillies are entering a critical offseason in which they must start acquiring some more pieces to supplement their aging core, but will they actually be able to fill all of their needs?

The Phillies desperately need outfield help. They must figure out what they're doing at third base. They should look for starting pitching depth. And they also must repair a patchwork bullpen that was horrendous for much of 2026.

Alex McFarlane and Jhoan Duran were the only two relievers Don Mattingly could trust down the stretch, but he can't just lean on two arms for all of next season.

Philadelphia needs to find answers, and it could acquire one in the form of left-hander Adrian Morejon.

Morejon is hitting the free-agent market after spending the first part of his big-league career with the San Diego Padres, and he may very well be the best relief pitcher available this winter.

ESPN's David Schoenfield has identified the Phillies as the best possible fit for the 27-year-old, noting that he would comprise the exact help Duran needs at the back end of the pen.

Morejon posted a 2.83 ERA and 11.2 K/9 this past season, allowing just 65 hits over 86 innings of work.

The southpaw entered the majors with the Padres back in 2019, but did not become a full-time reliever for the club until 2024.

Morejon followed with three terrific campaigns, earning an All-Star selection in 2025 after logging a 2.08 ERA across 75 appearances.

Over the course of his career, the Cuban native has registered a 3.26 ERA and 9.7 K/9, and over the last three years, he has surrendered a grand total of 10 home runs through 222.4 frames.

Given how strong Philadelphia's starting rotation is, adding Morejon to the back of the bullpen with Duran would give the Phillies shutdown potential, which would be able to help compensate for a less-than-stellar lineup. Like the one the Phils had in 2026.

The problem? Morejon could command around $100 million on his free-agent contract, and considering all of the other needs Philadelphia has, that could prove to be too hefty of a price for Dave Dombrowski to pay.

But if Morejon comes a bit cheaper like some projections, there is no question the Phillies should try and jump on him once free agency opens on Monday.

There is absolutely no doubting the fit of Morejon in Philadelphia.
