Aidan Miller was in line to have plenty of opportunities and make a big impact during Philadelphia Phillies Spring Training, but the narrative has completely shifted to hoping that the organization’s top prospect is simply ready to start the regular season on time.
Miller has been sidelined for weeks with a back injury, which was also present at times last year. Phillies President Dave Dombrowski hesitated to call the injury “chronic,” but it’s not comforting to know that this is something Miller has been dealing with for a while.
Rob Thomson gave an update on where Miller stands right now as the Phillies hit their midway point of Grapefruit League action.
The Philadelphia skipper recently said that Miller traveled back to the city to see one of the team doctors, "Just to close the loop on all of the medical people."
Miller is back with the team in Florida, but there's still no schedule for when he could get on the field and get in-game action.
"We don't have a timeline," continued Thomson. "I mean, he hasn't swung a bat in two weeks, so we just want to get him healthy to where there's no pain and get him back playing again."
Even though there is no timetable for the prospect's return, according to the Phillies skipper, Thomson said there is no concern about Miller and that they're just trying to take care of him.
Still, it is worrisome that he has missed so much time, and the Phillies don't really have an idea of when he could appear in a game.
Hopefully, this injury won't cause Miller to skip a beat when he eventually returns to the field. The 21-year-old recorded an OPS of 1.033 over both Double-A and Triple-A in 2025. During the final month of the seaosn Miller logged a .370/.554/.565 slash line.
Heading into Spring Training, there was a legitimate case to be made that Miller could join the big-league team early on in the season, depending on how he looked in training camp.
While Thomson said there's no long-term concern with Miller, before the Phillies even think about when his debut could be, they need to make sure he's healthy.
