The Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to a significant move before the MLB trade deadline.

The Philadelphia Phillies have sputtered just a bit recently, as they have gone 6-6 over their last 12 games and will begin a three-game set with the Detroit Tigers on Friday for their last series before the All-Star break.

In spite of their mini-slide, the Phillies are still 52-42 and hold a Wild Card spot in the National League playoff picture. They have also gone 43-23 since a 9-19 start.

However, it is abundantly clear that Philadelphia needs some help, as evidenced by the fact that the ballclub has a minus-9 run differential.

Luckily, the Phillies have until the Aug. 3 trade deadline to bolster their roster, and Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller has pitched an intriguing trade idea that would help Don Mattingly's squad in multiple areas.

Miller's proposal has Philadelphia sending second baseman Aroon Escobar and pitcher Moises Chace — two top-10 prospects in Philly's system — to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, pitcher Robbie Ray and cash.

Lee is slashing .309/.341/.441 with five home runs and 33 RBI over 340 plate appearances this season. With the Phillies in desperate need of some offensive punch from their outfield, Lee would be a terrific fit.

It's true that he isn't a very good defender, but at this point, Philadelphia just needs some bats, and Lee would fit the bill.

Meanwhile, Ray would add an experienced arm to a starting rotation that is absolutely starving for depth.

Cristopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler and Jesus Luzardo comprise a terrific top three, but beyond that trio, things get spooky for the Phillies, who sent Andrew Painter down to Triple-A and have watched Aaron Nola's implosion continue.

Ray has logged a 3.45 ERA and 1.230 WHIP this season, registering 86 strikeouts over 101.2 innings of work. His strikeouts are down and the walks (4.1 BB/9) are a bit of a concern, but Ray has always had command issues, and his solid 76.9 LOB% indicates he has done a fine job pitching out of jams.

The money could be a sticking point here, as Lee is making $23.5 million in 2026 and 2027 before having the ability to opt out with two years and $41 remaining on his deal. Then there's Ray, who is collecting $25 million this season.

But that's why Miller included cash heading back to Philadelphia as part of the trade.

The Phillies would surely prefer to avoid ravaging their farm system in the coming weeks, but if they are able to fix a couple of their most glaring issues without surrendering Painter, Gage Wood or Aidan Miller, they would probably sign for that.
