The Philadelphia Phillies could make a deal for an outfielder at the trade deadline.
The Philadelphia Phillies have turned around their season after a slow start, as they are 50-40 and only three games behind the Atlanta Braves for the lead in the NL East.
Ahead of the trade deadline, the Phillies are in need of a right fielder as Adolis García will miss the remainder of the season. Philadelphia could also acquire a first baseman, as Bryce Harper has stated he'd move back to right field if need be.
In The Athletic's trade deadline article, Jim Bowden names Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell as the best fit for the Phillies to acquire.
Adell is having a solid season for the Angels, slashing .245/.290/.387 with 11 home runs, 15 doubles, 47 RBIs, 39 runs, and a .677 OPS. While these numbers aren't elite, he would be an upgrade in the outfield for Philadelphia.
They would also hope to unlock his 2025 form, as he had a career year, slashing .236/.293/.485 with 37 home runs, 18 doubles, 98 RBIs, 63 runs, and a .778 OPS.
Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn ImagesAdell could thrive in the back half of a talented Phillies lineup that features Kyle Schwarber, Harper, and Trea Turner.
Schwarber is having another strong season, hitting .254/.370/.567 with an MLB-leading 30 home runs along with nine doubles, 55 RBIs, 55 runs, and a .936 OPS. He is among the MVP favorites in the National League.
Harper is also an MVP candidate, as he is having his best season in years, slashing .270/.370/.522 with 20 home runs, 16 doubles, 57 RBIs, 56 runs, and an .892 OPS.
While Schwarber and Harper are playing well, their other star, Turner, is struggling. Turner is hitting .236/.283/.360 with 10 home runs, 15 doubles, 31 RBIs, 60 runs, 16 stolen bases, and a .643 OPS.
Philadelphia hopes Turner can turn things around in the second half of the season, and adding more power to the lineup, like Adell, could help him and the Phillies' offense.
Philadelphia has a talented roster and is a contender, looking to reach the World Series for the first time since 2022 and win their first championship since 2008. A win-now trade for Adell would bolster their lineup and outfield.
