The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to make a big splash in one area this MLB offseason.

The Philadelphia Phillies definitely need to get to work this offseason after losing in the NLDS for the second straight year, but things are a bit complicated for them right now.

Why? Because Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto are both free agents, and if the Phillies re-sign both of them, they may not have room to do much else.

However, Philadelphia will spend somewhere this winter, and ESPN's Jeff Passan has revealed that the Phillies will be aiming to boost their lineup.

"What's clear is that there's a group of teams that will spend on a big bat (Phillies, Red Sox, Blue Jays), a number surveying multiple options (Yankees, Mets, Cubs) and a handful that would do so opportunistically (Orioles, Tigers, Reds, Pirates). Others could emerge depending on how the market plays out and what trade possibilities emerge," Passan wrote.

Now, this could simply mean Philadelphia is looking to retain Schwarber, who, from a power-hitting perspective, is the biggest bat on the market.

Schwarber smashed 56 home runs while racking up 132 RBI in 2025, registering a .928 OPS. The downside to Schwarber, however, is that he is 32 years old and doesn't play the field.

Will the Phillies be willing to give an aging designated hitter an incredibly lucrative contract that could span as much as five years? It remains to be seen.

Passan also noted that Philadelphia is interested in outfielder Cody Bellinger, although it isn't clear if the Phillies will pursue irrespective of what happens with Schwarber or if they will only turn to the former NL MVP if Schwarber signs elsewhere.

Philadelphia is regularly among the top teams in payroll, but it seems like the Phillies want to be a bit more careful with their spending this offseason.

Kyle Tucker has also been floated as a possibility for the club, but given that he is expected to land a deal worth around $400 million, the chances of Philadelphia keeping Schwarber and bagging Tucker seem incredibly slim.

The Phillies could also use a starting pitcher with Ranger Suarez likely departing via free agency and Zack Wheeler recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome, but right now, it appears that their focus is on adding some offense.
