On the surface, it seems obvious that the Philadelphia Phillies will have some level of interest in outfielder Kyle Tucker.

There are only a few reasons for that, and the simplest one is the fact that the Phillies haven't had a great outfield over the past few years.

If there's been one area for Philadelphia to improve on recently, it's been on that side of the baseball.

As things currently stand, there isn't a player even close to Tucker on the free agency market in terms of an outfielder. The problem with someone like Tucker is that he's going to be very expensive, and it might not make sense for the Phillies to get involved in him due to that price.

That's without even factoring in the decision to likely sign him and not keep Kyle Schwarber around.

Despite that, Tim Britton of The Athletic believes the Phillies are one of the main teams that could get involved in Tucker, going as far as saying that they’re one of the top landing spots.

“The smooth-swinging right fielder is the gem of this free-agent class, a 29-year-old who has posted between four and five wins above replacement in each of the last five seasons. That said, Tucker’s 2025 could have been better...

“Tucker doesn’t wow with any one aspect of his game: He’s never hit more than 30 home runs or batted .300. But he hits for a solid average and for extra-base pop, walks as often as he strikes out, can steal 20-plus bases and plays above-average defense in right field,” he wrote.

As Britton also touched on, we might be falling into a situation where Tucker is a tad overrated.

I think that's a bit crazy to say because of just how good he really is, but his numbers aren't exactly the same as some of the elite players around Major League Baseball.

I think if Tucker had a better year with the Chicago Cubs in 2025, we'd be looking at him a bit differently, but he didn't, and there was an injury there that could be somewhat concerning.
