Some teams around Major League Baseball haven't found much success in recent years, which could prompt them to move on from some players.

The Colorado Rockies are one of them, but it remains uncertain what their plan is long-term. If the Rockies want to find any success in the long term, moving on from young talent probably wouldn't be ideal.

However, given the expectation that they likely won't be good for another few seasons, trading somebody like Hunter Goodman does have its benefits if they get back the package they want.

If there's one team in baseball that could use a Goodman, it's none other than the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies have an obvious need at the catcher position, which is a part of the reason why Matt Davis of FanSided proposed the idea of trading for him.

“Hunter Goodman may have been the only good thing that happened to the Colorado Rockies in 2025. Goodman would be the biggest prize to bring in at the catcher position via trade this winter. He just turned 26 years old and with his early resume, how can you not be excited for what it could look like,” he wrote.

“Goodman really broke out this season and will be ranked among the best catchers in MLB with four more years of control left on his contract. Granted, offensive numbers are skewed with the altitude in Colorado, but Goodman overcame a lot of doubt.”.

Goodman likely isn't known to the casual fan, but not due to what he did offensively a season ago with his 120 OPS+ and 31 home runs.

That's more so due to the fact that the Rockies were the worst team in baseball, and not a lot of people watch them. If Goodman is on a team like the Phillies, there will be a strong argument to be made that he'll be viewed as one of the better catchers in baseball. He ended up winning a Silver Slugger and was also an All-Star.

Better than anything, Goodman doesn't even hit free agency until 2030, so he'd have many years of control and what should be a decently low price in arbitration.

He doesn't hit arbitration until 2027.
