The Philadelphia Phillies had an active day on Friday.
First, they lost out on Bo Bichette, with the star free agent reportedly signing with the New York Mets in the National League East. Next, shortly after that news broke, Philadelphia reportedly re-signed veteran catcher J.T. Realmuto.
Philadelphia can’t be done making moves this offseason, and here is what should come next for the Phillies after Friday’s news.
The Phillies already added one veteran outfielder to the mix with Adolis Garcia’s one-year deal, but it’s still wise to add another.
Right now, Justin Crawford and, eventually, Gabriel Rincones Jr. are in line for a lot of playing time. Even though they’re two highly-regarded prospects, there will inevitably be learning curves and growing pains for the rookie duo.
Clearly, the team was willing to spend some significant money to add Bichette. Even though some of that budget likely went to Realmuto, Philadelphia should still explore the option of adding another outfielder.
Could a Harrison Bader reunion be back on the table? Would the front office and ownership go all in and try to convince Cody Bellinger to come to the NL East?

Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn ImagesThere were rumors over the winter and last offseason that the Phillies could entertain trade offers for Alec Bohm. When Philadelphia felt like a potential landing spot for Bichette, the unspoken reality was that Bohm could have been the odd man out if the Phillies landed the star free agent.
But Bichette is a Met, and the Phillies still have Bohm on the roster.
If the Phillies do want to shake up the infield and move on from Bohm, they should make that move sometime soon to give the front office enough time before spring training to figure out who will play the hot corner. Maybe the plan is to keep Bohm heading into his contract year.
Whatever Dave Dombrowski decides, the next few days will be the time to do so.
The Phillies had one of the best rotations in baseball, by ERA, a year ago, but this will be a very different starter core for the 2026 season.
Not only did the Phillies miss out on Bichette this week, but they also watched their ace, Ranger Suarez, pack his bags and head to the Boston Red Sox.
A lot of attention has been on Philadelphia’s lineup, but the rotation still needs another arm to add some critical depth to add to the group. Right now, the Phillies' projected four and five starters (assuming Zack Wheeler isn’t healthy for Opening Day) are rookie Andrew Painter and Taijuan Walker.
The Phillies need another starter. Chris Bassitt or Nick Martinez could make a lot of sense.
