Brandon Lowe is ready to be a leader for the young Pittsburgh Pirates team.
Brandon Lowe’s addition to the Pittsburgh Pirates will help them in multiple areas.
To start, he’s going to add a much-needed proven big-league bat to their lineup. Lowe was an All-Star in 2025 and finished the season with a .784 OPS, including 31 home runs and 19 doubles.
However, it isn’t just what Lowe can do on the field that will bring value to the Pirates. Lowe is also ready to be a mentor, leader, or anything else Pittsburgh needs him to do to get back to being a playoff team.
“Anything that’s necessary, honestly,” said Lowe (via DK Pittsburgh Sports). “Realistically, anything that I can [provide].”
“It's a good team here, talented. Any kind of veteran leadership that I can [provide]. Feels weird to say that. I don't think that I'm old, but in this clubhouse, I'm on the older side."

Just because a player has experience or success in the big leagues doesn’t automatically make them a good mentor for fit with a young team.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with Lowe; he’s seeking that opportunity with the Pirates.
Lowe doesn’t want to just be a mentor for the Pirates, though. He also wants to be a key reason on the field that the Pirates can get back to the playoffs. He knows that as long as he can stay on the field, he can be an impact bat in the Pirates’ lineup.
“My own goal is to be out like very many as possible,” continued the veteran, “I know what the production looks like when that happens and when I'm healthy. So, a healthy full season, I'd be happy.
Lowe has a lengthy injury history, and a minor ailment is bound to pop up at some point throughout the season. But with Lowe wanting to be a leader in the Pirates clubhouse, the team knows he can provide value even if there’s a stretch when he can’t be on the field.
