The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to capitalize on a bounce-back win on Thursday as they return home for a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox.

There will be some different faces in the dugout, though, as the Pirates made several roster moves ahead of Friday's series opener.

The Pirates recalled Jhostynxon Garcia at the very end of July to add some more outfield depth, and hope he could finally capitalize on a strong Minor League season. 

Unfortunately, Garcia struggled mightily in his limited opportunities over the last few weeks. He only logged one hit in 13 plate appearances with a strikeout rate of 46.2 percent.

Pittsburgh optioned Garcia, one of the few right-handed hitting options, and again calls into question the team's not trading for a righty at the deadline. 

The Pirates acquired Garcia from the Red Sox in an offseason trade. It would have been a cool storyline to see what Garcia could have done against his former organization, but that opportunity will need to wait. 

Yohan Ramirez was placed on the Major League's paternity leave list on Friday. A player will miss up to three games when placed on this leave, so there's a chance Ramirez will miss the entire Red Sox Series.

Ramirez has appeared in 49 games with the Pirates this season and owns a 2.67 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. 

Billy Cook has had some big moments for the Pirates since the All-Star break, and now he is back with the big-league team.

The outfielder has been a solid defensive option for the Pirates this year, but has left something to be desired at the plate in terms of offensive impact. He only has a .467 OPS in 45 at-bats this season.

Pittsburgh also recalled Wilber Dotel from Triple-A to take Ramirez's spot in the bullpen over the next few days.

Dotal has pitched in 14 games with the Pirates at the big-league level in 2026 and owns a 5.06 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. His biggest strength has been his fastball velocity, which averages 98.1 mph.
