The Pittsburgh Pirates have received some very disappointing injury news regarding one of their pitching prospects.

In recent years, there haven't been many things for Pittsburgh Pirates fans to be excited about. Once again this season, the team has struggled and is going to miss out on the postseason.

Paul Skenes is arguably the only thing that has kept the fan base going. His presence has been fun to watch, although there are legitimate reasons to be concerned about how long he's going to want to remain with the Pirates if they team can't figure out how to win games.

As always, a major focus for Pittsburgh has been its farm system.

Thomas Harrington, who is currently the No. 9 ranked prospect in the Pirates' system, is a pitcher the team has been excited about. Unfortunately, he has dealt with groin injury that has kept him out of game action for quite some time.

A new update has been shared about Harrington's status. It's not a good update for Pittsburgh.

As shared by Todd Tomcyzk, the team's director of sports medicine, Harrington is dealing with a strained groin.

"Yes, unfortunately it was. About the 14th, 15th pitch, he did feel a right groin grab again," Tomcyzk said. "Subsequent exams and imaging showed a moderate strain to that groin area."

During the 2025 minor league season, Harrington has appeared in 21 games and made 20 starts with the Indianapolis Indians. He has compiled a 7-9 record to go along with a 5.34 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, 90 strikeouts, 33 walks, and 96 innings of work completed.

In addition, the 24-year-old pitcher made three appearances at the Major League level with the Pirates. He went 0-1 with a 15.58 ERA, a 2.88 WHIP, and 8.2 innings completed.

More than likely, Harrington will miss another chunk of time. The hope is that he can recover quickly without any setbacks and get back on the field.

Sadly, this is just the latest in a long line of disappointments for the Pittsburgh franchise.
