The Pittsburgh Pirates are searching for offense above all else this offseason, but they could definitely stand to add a veteran arm to their starting rotation, as well.
Yes, the Pirates already have an impressive pitching staff led by Paul Skenes, but it never hurts to have depth, and Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter has linked Pittsburgh to a two-time All-Star in free agency: Tyler Anderson.
"The Pirates have squeezed some reasonably priced innings out of Rich Hill (22 GS, 119.0 IP) in 2023, Martín Pérez (16 GS, 83.0 IP) in 2024 and Andrew Heaney (23 GS, 120.1 IP) in 2025, and Tyler Anderson would fit the mold as a veteran lefty likely to be available on a one-year deal," Reuter wrote.
Reuter is expecting Pittsburgh to trade away Mitch Keller, which would further open the door for a veteran addition like Anderson.
Anderson spent 2025 with the Los Angeles Angels, logging a 4.56 ERA while allowing 135 hits and registering 104 strikeouts over 136.1 innings of work.

The left-hander is just two seasons removed from making an All-Star appearance, as he pitched to the tune of a 3.81 ERA in 2024.
Anderson's best campaign to date, however, came with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022, when he went 15-5 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.002 WHIP, which represented his first trip to the midsummer classic.
The 35-year-old hasn't exactly been a frontline starter for most of his career, laying claim to a lifetime 4.30 ERA, 4.49 FIP and 1.296 WHIP. But he eats innings and has avoided major injuries for the last five seasons, so he would be a good fit for the Pirates.
Pittsburgh could probably land Anderson on a cheap one-year contract, which would also leave the Buccos plenty of room to go out and make some other additions.
Apparently, the Pirates are planning to open their wallets this winter, and they already made a push for first baseman Josh Naylor, who re-signed with the Seattle Mariners on a five-year, $92.5 million pact.
We'll see if Pittsburgh owner Bob Nutting and general manager Ben Cherington keep their word and actually spend some money in the coming weeks and months.
Lord knows the Pirates need it, especially to satisfy Skenes.
