Ryan O'Hearn put together one of the best offensive performances in Pittsburgh Pirates history.
Ryan O’Hearn has been exactly what the Pittsburgh Pirates envisioned when they signed him to a two-year deal over the offseason: a jolt of life and power in the middle of the lineup.
That was once again made clear on Tuesday evening, when O’Hean delivered a historic performance in Pittsburgh’s 12-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
O’Hearn went four-for-five at the plate, including three home runs. This performance not only set Pirates history, but MLB history, too.
O’Hearn logged 10 RBI during the game, which set a franchise record. The previous high was 9 RBI, held by Johnny Rizzo in 1939. On top of that, O’Hearn is the 11th player in MLB history to hit three home runs with 10 RBI in a game. The player to do this was Shohei Ohtani in 2024.
The left-hander is also the 16th different player in club history to have a three-run home run game at PNC Park. Other notable players who accomplished this feat included Andrew McCutchen, Josh Bell, and Jack Suwinski.

“I didn’t do anything different or special today,” O’Hearn explained after the game.
“Just saw the ball really good from the first pitch of the day, and I just kind of was on, like, cruise control mode. Got some good pitches to hit. After the third [home run], I was like, ‘Oh, man, okay. Today must be my day.’”
After the game, Paul Skenes joked that O'Hearn was "selfish" because his home runs stopped Pittsburgh from mounting any sort of rally.
To put into perspective how amazing a performance this was, O’Hearn individually said after the game that he’s never hit three home runs or logged 10 RBI in a single game during his baseball career; Not in college, not in high school, and not in little league.
Tuesday could have been a day full of frustration and disappointment, with the announcement that star rookie Konnor Griffin was headed to the injured list for the foreseeable future. Instead, O’Hearn gave Pirates fans a historic performance and something to cheer.
It was a game well-deserving of the curtain call the Pirates slugger received from the hometown crowd.
