The Pittsburgh Pirates have a group of players putting up very nice stats in Grapefruit League action.
Here are three players who are having a standout spring training. (Yes, Konnor Griffin is having a standout spring, but for the sake of variety, he isn’t on this list.)
Jhostynxon Garcia is new to the Pirates organization after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Boston Red Sox. However, the 23-year-old is already making a name for himself with how well he’s been swinging the bat this spring.
Garica, or as he goes by “The Password,” has been on an absolute tear in Grapefruit League action. He owns a .517/.576/.759 slash line, including a double and two home runs. This hasn’t come in a small sample size, either, for spring’s standards. Garcia has taken 29 at-bats across 13 games.
The Pirates may have their outfield already locked up to begin the 2026 season, but Garcia certainly hasn’t made things easy on the front office, in the best way possible. If he continues to swing that bat like this at the start of the Minor League season, Pittsburgh may be forced to make some tough decisions with its big-league roster.

Pittsburgh’s No. 21-ranked prospect has received 12 at-bats over nine Grapefruit games and owns a 1.871 OPS. De Los Santos’ spring home runs only trail Konnor Griffin for the most by a Pirate this spring.
De Los Santos likely isn’t an option for the Pirates during the 2026 season, as he finished last year at High-A. That said, his strong spring should give the front office a lot to look forward to about the future of the organization’s infield.
Mike Clevinger may have signed with the Pirates late into the offseason, but he’s showing no signs of a delayed start with how he’s been throwing the ball on the mound.
In four games, two of those being starts, Clevinger has given up seven runs (4.38 ERA). Perhaps the most impressive part of these numbers is the right-hander's 11 strikeouts, which is tied for the third most out of any Pirate this spring.
Pittsburgh only signed Clevinger to a Minor League deal, but he could be pitching his way onto the Pirates' Opening Day roster.
