Both a happy flight and momentum would be in the cards as the Texas Rangers shut out the New York Yankees 3-0 to close the homestand.

The Texas Rangers' series finale against the New York Yankees on Wednesday afternoon certainly wasn’t a huge game by any means.

In April, just over 30 games into the season, there’s really no saying that any one particular game is huge. But the Rangers beat the Yankees 3-0 at Globe Life Field.

Even if it wasn’t huge, the Rangers' series-ending tilt with the Yankees at least felt significant given how the homestand had gone.

Texas entered play on Wednesday afternoon, slumping at the plate and losers of five of their last six games.

Adding to that, the Rangers wanted a happy flight to Detroit and to at least be able to take a little momentum with them as they begin their next road trip.

Both a happy flight and momentum would be in the cards as the Rangers shutout the Yankees to close out the homestand.

Nathan Eovaldi got the start for the Rangers, entering play struggling with an ERA over five on the season.

Despite his early-season struggles, Eovaldi has dominated the Yankees ever since joining the Rangers in 2023.

That trend would continue as Eovaldi went seven shutout innings in what goes down as easily his best start of the young season.

Jacob Latz came on and pitched a pair of clean frames to help the Rangers secure the shutout and victory.

The Rangers struck first in the fifth inning as Josh Jung came through again, this time with a two-RBI single to put Texas up 2-0.

In that same fifth inning, Rangers right fielder Brandon Nimmo left the game with right hamstring tightness after experiencing discomfort while running to third base.

In the seventh inning, Sam Haggerty, who entered the game in Nimmo’s place, came through with an RBI single to give the Rangers a huge insurance run and make it 3-0.

Three would be all the runs the Rangers needed today as they snapped their three-game losing streak.

Now, Texas will await word on the condition of Nimmo, who has been one of their best players this season.

If Nimmo is forced into an absence, then it will not mark great timing as Texas is already without left fielder Wyatt Langford.

Langford, however, could be activated and return from the Injured List this weekend. The Rangers will hope that his time off can lead to some success at the plate as he has struggled out of the gates.

However, more importantly, they will hope this win over the Yankees can spark a greater winning streak.
