On this day in 2023, the Texas Rangers finished off a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS with a 7-1 Game 3 victory at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
On this day, Oct. 10, in 2023, the Texas Rangers returned home after 16 days on the road and thousands of miles.
The Rangers returned to a crowd of 40,861 fans who would cheer the team on as they took down the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 to complete an American League Division Series sweep and advance to the American League Championship Series.
It didn’t take long for Texas to get on the board as Corey Seager got the party started in the first inning when he blasted a 445-foot home run way into the right field seats to make it 1-0.
Five-run inning boosted Rangers
Just one inning later, the Rangers would practically put the game away with a five-run explosion in the second.
After Seager was intentionally walked to load the bases, Mitch Garver came to the plate and ripped a two-run double down the left field line to make it 3-0.
Pitches later, Adolis Garcia would come through with a massive swing as he belted a three-run shot to left field and expanded the Rangers' lead to 6-0.
In the sixth, Nathaniel Lowe took his former Texas teammate Kyle Gibson deep for what would be the seventh and final run of the night for the Rangers.
Despite the offensive explosion, the main story of the game was arguably Nathan Eovaldi, who turned in one of his classic postseason gems.
Eovaldi was stellar in outing
Eovaldi went seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits while punching out seven Baltimore hitters.
With the crowd chanting his name in the top of the seventh, Eovaldi punched out Jordan Westburg to end the inning and returned from the dugout to receive a curton call.
Jose Leclerc would record the final four outs of the game, including a strikeout of Westburg to end the game and send the Rangers to their first ALCS since 2016.
Texas would, of course, go on to beat the Houston Astros in seven games in the ALCS, but there’s no doubt that outside of the World Series, Game 3 of the ALDS was the most memorable home game in the postseason for the Rangers.
With the home runs from Seager and Garcia as well as the masterpiece from Eovaldi, there were plenty of things for Texas fans to cheer for in what felt like somewhat of a welcome-back party following the team’s long and successful road trip.
Perhaps for many Rangers fans, this was the game when a realization flowed through the air that something special might have started cooking.
