On Wednesday night, the Texas Rangers will have an opportunity to bounce back as they take on the Kansas City Royals.
For the sixth time in the last five weeks, the Texas Rangers fell in a game in which they had a chance to reach .500 with a win.
After Texas jumped out to an early lead, the Kansas City Royals used a four-run sixth inning to pick up a 5-3 victory over the Rangers in Tuesday night’s series opener.
On Wednesday night, the Rangers will have an opportunity to bounce back as they take on the Royals in the second tilt of a three-game series.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM CST at Kauffman Staduim. Fans can catch all the action on Rangers Sports Network and on 105.3 The Fan on the radio side of things.
MacKenzie Gore will toe the rubber for the Rangers. The young left-hander enters play with a 4-5 record and a 4.23 ERA in his first season with Texas.
Just 12 days ago, Gore took the mound against Kansas City at Globe Life Field in Arlington and had one of his better starts of the season, going 6.1 shutout innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out three.
Gore will look to bounce back from his last start against the St. Louis Cardinals, where he went just 4.2 innings and allowed four earned runs on nine hits.
As has been the case with Gore throughout the entire season, finding the strike zone early and often and picking up some early count-outs will be key to his success.
The Rangers' offense will face veteran right-hander Seth Lugo, who enters play with a 2-4 record and a 3.91 ERA on the season.
On May 30th in Arlington, Lugo had the Rangers' number as he fired six innings, allowing just one earned run.
Texas did, however, cash in on a pair of Royals errors in the fourth to score two runs and eventually won the game in the ninth on an Ezequiel Duran walkoff single.
With a win, the Rangers will improve to 33-34 on the season and set up a rubber match with Kansas City on Wednesday afternoon. A win on Wednesday would also give Texas yet another chance to climb back to .500.
As things stand entering play on Wednesday, the Rangers sit just three games back of the first-place Seattle Mariners in the American League West. Texas is tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the final AL Wild Card spot.
