After a series victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night, the Texas Rangers will be back in action at Globe Life Field on Friday night.
Texas will welcome the Athletics to town for a game that will be remembered in Rangers history forever.
Friday night marks the first time the Rangers will wear their new City Connect uniforms on the field.
Those in attendance can also take home a piece of memberbelia related to the new City Connect uniforms as the first 10,000 fans at Globe Life Field will receive a Nathan Eovaldi City Connect bobblehead.
Speaking of Eovaldi, he will be on the mound tonight for the Rangers, making his sixth start of the season.
Eovaldi enters play with a 2-3 record, a 5.06 ERA, and a 1.538 WHIP in the midst of a tough start to the season.
However, despite the overall rocky start to Eovaldi’s season, his best start of the year did come against these very same Athletics.
Just 11 days ago, Eovaldi threw seven scoreless innings against the A’s in West Sacramento, Calif., on the Rangers last road trip.
The Rangers will hope for another performance similar from Eovaldi as they debut the City Connects on his bobblehead night.
On the mound for the A’s will be Luis Severino whom the Rangers have already faced this season.
Texas was able to get to Severino on April 13th, tagging him for four runs in six innings in what ended up as a 6-1 Rangers victory.
Jake Burger will be a name to watch for tonight as he enters play with a .368 batting average, four home runs, and seven RBIs in 19 career at-bats against Severino.
Brandon Nimmo and Ezequiel Duran are also hitting over .300 against Severino in five or more at bats.
However, perhaps the biggest success that a Rangers player has against Severino comes from Joc Pederson, who is hitting .455 in 11 at-bats against the A’s righty.
Much like their last meeting, if you’re an early season standings watcher, then this series is for you as the Rangers and A’s once again enter play a top the early American League West Division standings with identical 13-12 records.
No crazy divisional implications will take place, but it will still be fun to see a pair of AL West rivals with solid starts to the season go at it.
Fans can tune into tonight’s game on CW33 in the DFW area and on 105.3 The Fan on the radio side of things.
