Before the game even started on Saturday afternoon, things seemed like they were stacked against the Texas Rangers.

Cal Quantrill, who Texas knew would only be good for about 40 pitches, got the start in place of the injured Jack Leiter, and both the Rangers' highest leverage relievers, Jakob Junis and Jacob Latz, were down after throwing the last two days.

Adding onto all of that, just minutes before the game, the Rangers found out they would be without star outfielder Wyatt Langford, who was scratched due to hamstring tightness.

Despite all of that, the Rangers managed to take down the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 in a three-hour, 14-minute contest.

The Rangers' offense had its work cut out for it as it faced Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease, who entered play at 4-3 with a 2.75 ERA and 118 strikeouts in just 78.2 innings this season.

Texas was able to get to Cease early as Jake Burger flipped an RBI single into center field in the first inning after back-to-back walks from Corey Seager and Brandon Nimmo.

Quantrill made the 1-0 lead stand as the Ontario native shut down his former team, throwing four shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five.

In the fifth, the Rangers knocked Cease out of the game as Burger lined another RBI single into left to make it 2-0.

With left-hander Mason Fluharty in the game, Alejandro Osuna laced a two-run single into center field to double the Rangers' lead and make it 4-0.

Later in that frame, Texas catcher Elías Díaz drove a two-run double into deep right field, and the Rangers had a five-run fifth inning and a 6-0 lead.

With the Rangers leading 6-2 in the sixth, Corey Seager drove a solo home run out to right in just his second game since returning from the Injured List with a concussion.

Holding onto a 7-4 lead and without their two best relievers, Peyton Gray came up huge for Texas, throwing 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four while picking up the win.

Tyler Alexander came on in the ninth and earned his third save of the season, throwing a perfect frame.

With the win, the Rangers clinched the series victory over the Blue Jays and improved their record to 41-42 on the season.

Texas will go for a series sweep and a .500 record in Sunday afternoon’s finale against the Blue Jays.
