The Texas Rangers will go for a series victory over the Los Angeles Angels behind Nathan Eovaldi in Wednesday night's finale.
After Wednesday night’s 13-1 loss, Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said the team’s focus needs to be on moving forward.
“They’re big-leaguers; you flush this one quick and move on to [Wednesday] as quick as you can,” Schumaker said.
Despite suffering one of their worst losses of the season, the Rangers certainly should have a positive view when stepping back and looking at the bigger picture.
Texas enters play on Wednesday still at .500 with a 46-46 record. Additionally, the team also didn’t lose any ground in the American League West as they remain just a half-game out of first place.
With that being said, Wednesday night’s rubber match against the Los Angeles Angels will represent an opportunity to claim a series victory and potentially pull back into first place.
Not only is it an opportunity, but Schumaker knows it’s also a test of his club's resilience.
“I think we’re gonna come back and have a chance to win tomorrow; I think that will be the true test and the sign of a winning team and not a .500 team,” Schumaker said.
“That’s gonna be the true test of winning the series after a tough day like it was [Tuesday], with [Nathan Eovaldi] on the mound; those are the days you come back and look forward to after a night as we had.”
As Schumaker alluded to, Nathan Eovaldi will take the mound for the Rangers to make his 18th start of the season.
Entering play on Wednesday, Eovaldi is 9-7 with a 4.02 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 110 strikeouts in 105.1 innings. In each of his last five starts, Eovaldi has given up three runs or fewer.
On the other side, the Rangers will see Angels left-hander Reid Detmers, who will make his 19th start of the season.
Detmers is 3-6 with a 4.13 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 117 strikeouts in 104.2 innings so far this season.
Before these two starters take the mound, the first 10,000 fans through the gates at Globe Life Field will receive a Wyatt Langford sliding catch bobblehead.
Adding to the pregame festivities, Texas native singer/songwriter Matthew Mata will perform in the Comerica Backyard from 5-7 p.m. The concert is free with a game ticket. The first pitch of Wednesday’s rubber match is set for slightly after the concert ends, at 7:05 p.m.
