The Texas Rangers are back in action for game two of their series with the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park in Miami.
After a close 4-3 victory on Monday night, the Texas Rangers will be back in action, going for the series win against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park on Tuesday.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. CST, with fans being able to catch all the action on Rangers Sports Network and on 105.3 The Fan on the radio side.
After deploying an opener last night, the Rangers will once again turn to a reliever to make a start.
Cal Quantrill will take the ball for Texas, making a start in place of Jack Leiter, who was placed on the 15-day Injured List with a right ankle posterior impingement on Sunday afternoon.
Quantrill enters play with a strong 3-0 record, 3.86 ERA, and 1.26 WHIP in 29.1 innings this season.
Tuesday night will mark Quantrill’s first start of the season as a Ranger. But far from the first start in his career. In seven MLB seasons prior to 2026, Quantrill has made 149 career starts.
After not cracking the team out of Spring Training, Quantrill started the season with Triple-A Round Rock. After a strong showing there, Quantrill was called up to Arlington and hasn’t left since.
Any length Quantrill can give will certainly be welcomed as the Rangers play just their second game of a 10-game road trip with no off days.
Quantrill’s opponent will certainly be a worthy one as Miami trots out former NL Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara to make his 17th start of the year.
Entering play on Tuesday, Alcantara is 7-4 with a 4.18 ERA in 103.1 innings pitched this season. In his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies, Alcantara went six innings and allowed just two runs.
Rangers catcher Elias Díaz will be one to watch should he get a start tonight as he is hitting .300 with a home run and a pair of RBIs in 10 career at-bats against Alcantara.
With a win on Tuesday, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker will pick up a series win against the team he managed in 2023-24, and Texas will pull back to within one game of the .500 mark at 39-40.
Coming into play on Tuesday, the Rangers sit just 1.5 games back of first place in the American League West. Texas is just a game back of the AL’s final Wild Card spot.
