Texas Rangers will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, looking to get back to .500 against the Boston Red Sox.
After Friday night’s 10-1 loss, the Texas Rangers won’t have to wait long for the opportunity to bounce back.
Texas will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, looking to get back to .500 in game two of their series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 PM CST. Fans can catch all the action on Rangers Sports Network and 105.3 The Fan on the radio side of things.
Jacob deGrom will take the mound for the Rangers, making his 14th start of the season. The tall righty enters play at a 5-4 clip with a 3.18 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 70.2 innings this season.
deGrom comes into Saturday’s start having won back-to-back starts. In his last outing against the Cleveland Guardians, deGrom went six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out six.
Prior to that start, deGrom earned his 100th career win against the St. Louis Cardinals after throwing five shutout innings.
Red Sox first baseman Wilson Contreras is the only Boston hitter who has faced deGrom more than twice. In 10 at-bats against deGrom, Contreras is hitting just .100 with an RBI.
With deGrom’s recent form, the Rangers undoubtedly feel they have a good chance to win every time he takes the mound, and Saturday afternoon will be the same.
deGrom’s opposition will create an elite pitching matchup as Ranger Suarez toes the rubber for the Red Sox.
Suarez will make his 13th start of the season, entering play with a 2-3 record and the same 3.18 ERA as deGrom.
In his last start against the New York Yankees, Suarez had a very strong showing, just 6.1 innings, allowing just six hits and one run.
Rangers hitters certainly won’t be blown away by Suarez, who throws consistently in the low 90s.
However, Suarez’s craftiness and ability to induce weak contact will pose a challenge to a Rangers offense that has struggled to hit left-handed pitching at times this season.
Entering play on Saturday, the Rangers sit two games back of first place in the American League West and tied for the final AL Wild Card spot.
Texas is 6-4 in its last 10 games and winners of their last four series. The Rangers will have to win both of the remaining games at Fenway Park if they want to continue that streak.
