Momentum is certainly on the side of the Texas Rangers right now.

The Rangers just finished off a four-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays north of the border over the weekend, using timely hitting and strong starting pitching to give themselves a potentially season-changing set of wins.

Now, Texas will embark on its final leg of this three-city road trip with a three-game set against the Cleveland Guardians beginning on Monday night.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m., marking the third consecutive series with early start times in the DFW area.

Watching tonight’s game will be a little bit different as Rangers Sports Network will not be broadcasting Monday night’s game.

Those wanting to tune into tonight’s broadcast will do so on ESPN, as the Rangers will be in the national spotlight. On the radio, things will remain unchanged as 105.3 The Fan will once again have the coverage.

Skip Schumaker and the Rangers will turn to an opener in this one as Tyler Alexander is set to make the start for Texas. It looks like a bullpen game for the Rangers, too.

Alexander earned saves in each of the last two contests that the Rangers played against the Blue Jays, pitching perfect ninth innings in both.

When he steps out on the mound and fires his first pitch, Alexander will become the first pitcher since saves became an official statistic in 1969 to record saves in back-to-back team games and then start the next contest.

Alexander has an ERA of just 2.62 in 34.1 innings pitched in his first season with the Rangers.

It’s hard to imagine Alexander going more than an inning in this one, so the rest of the Rangers bullpen will once again be called on to step up and get the team a lot of outs.

On the other side, the Rangers will see left-hander Parker Messick, who enters play at 7-4 with a 2.67 ERA on the season.

Back on June 5, Texas faced Messick at Globe Life Field, scoring three runs against him in 5.2 innings of work. The Rangers went on to win that game 3-2.

With a win today, the Rangers would jump back above .500 at 43-42 and extend their winning streak to five games.

Texas enters play in sole possession of first place in the American League West despite its 42-42 record. Monday marks the first day the Rangers have sat in first place since April.
