After an emphatic 5-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night, the Texas Rangers will be back at T-Mobile Park on Saturday for the second of a three-game series with their AL West rivals.
Entering play on Saturday, the Rangers are 4-0 against the Mariners this season after Friday night’s win and a three-game sweep of Seattle at Globe Life Field earlier this month.
Saturday night will bring yet another great pitching matchup as Nathan Eovaldi takes the mound for the Rangers, opposed by Mariners star George Kirby.
On Monday, Eovaldi turned in his best start of the season in West Sacramento, Calif., against the Athletics, going seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out seven.
Eovaldi also has some momentum on his side against the Mariners as he went six innings, allowing just two runs against Seattle at Globe Life Field back on April 7.
Much like Jacob deGrom last night and MacKenzie Gore tomorrow, Eovaldi will have just one start in between outings against the Mariners.
There is no doubt the Rangers will need Eovaldi to try and give them some length tonight after the bullpen covered five innings of shutout baseball on Friday.
Friday night’s series opener against the Mariners certainly isn’t the only time the Texas bullpen has been forced into a lot of action in the last several games. Texas is nearing the end of a nine-game-in-nine-day stretch.
However, Texas certinally has some bullets available in the bullpen on Saturday as leverage arms Jakob Junis and Robert Garcia both did not pitch on Friday and should be available on Saturday.
Offensively, the Rangers are coming off one of their better games of the season, compiling 15 hits in their series-opening victory.
Third baseman Josh Jung has gone from a struggling bat to one to watch for as he is hitting .400 with a 1.082 OPS in April after a three-hit night on Friday.
It’ll also be worth watching to see how left fielder Wyatt Langford follows up a three-hit night on Friday. There is a growing belief that, much like Jung, Langford is starting to turn the corner after a slow offensive start.
Fans wanting to tune into tonight’s game will do so a little differently, as tonight’s telecast will be exclusively on Fox. Radio listeners inside the DFW area can still do so on 105.3 The Fan.
