The Texas Rangers will go for the series victory against the Miami Marlins behind ace Jacob deGrom, who makes his 16th start.
After splitting the first two games of their series against the Miami Marlins, the Texas Rangers will have an opportunity to go for a series win on Wednesday afternoon.
It will be a very early one for Rangers fans across the Metroplex as first pitch is scheduled for 11:10 a.m. CST.
The early start will no doubt be welcomed by the Rangers as they will hop on a flight and head north of the border to begin a four-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.
As Texas goes for the series victory, they will certainly have the right guy on the mound with Jacob deGrom making his 16th start of the season.
deGrom enters play with a 6-4 record, a 3.59 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, and 98 strikeouts in 82.2 innings pitched this season.
In his last start, deGrom was ambushed by the San Diego Padres as he allowed five runs in the first inning and went on to allow six earned runs in six innings pitched. However, the Rangers did end up winning that game 9-7.
Throughout this career, deGrom has plenty of experience pitching against the Marlins from his time with the New York Mets. However, this is certainly a different Miami team than the one the Rangers ace was used to facing.
Marlins outfielder Esteury Ruiz is the only hitter on Miami’s roster with experience against deGrom. Ruiz is 0-for-3 in his career against the Rangers veteran right-hander.
On the other side, deGrom will match up against young right-hander Eury Pérez, setting up a strong pitching matchup for the series finale.
Pérez enters play with a 3-6 record and a 4.60 ERA on the season. He has also struck out 72 batters in just 62.2 innings pitched.
Right fielder Brandon Nimmo is the only Ranger to have faced Pérez more than three times. He is a lifetime .600 hitter with a home run and three RBI in six career at-bats against the young Marlins flamethrower.
With a win, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker would claim a series victory against the team he managed from 2023 to 2024.
Coming into play on Wednesday, the Rangers sit just 2.5 games back of first place in the American League West and are just one game back of the AL’s final Wild Card spot, which is currently held by the same Blue Jays team Texas will be playing this weekend.
