After playing four games in four days against the Boston Red Sox to open the 2025 season, the Texas Rangers were treated to an off-day following Opening Day this year.
Following their 5-3 season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, the Rangers will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for Game Two of their season and series with Philadelphia.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT (4:05 p.m. ET), with fans being able to watch the game on Rangers Sports Network and listen on 105.3 The Fan.
Jacob deGrom will take the mound for the Rangers for the first time in 2026. Last season, deGrom was the Rangers' lone All-Star representative in a year in which he went 12-8 with a 2.97 ERA.
In 2026, deGrom said his goal is to pitch 200 innings, and he will take the first step of that journey on Saturday at Citizens Bank Park.
Philadelphia is a familiar place for deGrom, who has had many battles with the Phillies throughout the nine seasons he was a member of the New York Mets.
Opposing deGrom on the mound for the Phillies will be Aaron Nola, making it the first time the Rangers have seen a right-hander in the Skip Schumaker era.
Expect the likes of Joc Pederson and Evan Carter to each get their first starts of the season after coming off the bench on Opening Day.
Speaking of Schumaker, he will once again go for his first win as manager of the Rangers this afternoon.
Texas will be hoping their at-bats from the ninth inning on Opening Day can carry over into Saturday afternoon’s game.
Down 5-0, the Rangers rallied for three runs thanks to a Jake Burger two-run home run and an RBI single from Danny Jansen.
Up against the wall with one out to spare, the Rangers did get the tying run to the plate against Phillies star Jhoan Duran, but could not muster up the last big hit they needed.
After the game, Schumaker said the team would be “just fine” if they continued with that quality of at-bats moving forward.
Following Saturday afternoon’s game, the Rangers will have one final game against the Phillies on Sunday afternoon, and it will mark the highly anticipated Texas debut of MacKenzie Gore.
There is no doubt that if the Rangers can snag the final two games of this series, they will leave feeling great about the start to their 2026 season.
