Throughout the course of a Major League Baseball season, how a team plays against the last-place team in it’s divison can make a huge difference in determining its fate.

On Tuesday night, the Texas Rangers open a series with the last-place Los Angeles Angels, who will enter the series with a 36-55 record.

This opportunity comes at a good time for Texas, which, after ripping off seven wins in 10 tries on their most recent road trip, returned home to drop two of three and fall out of first place in the American League West.

It goes without saying that an opportunity is only good if you take advantage of it, and that will be the task for the Rangers in their series against the Angels.

First pitch for Tuesday’s series opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m as are the remaining two games of the series.

It’ll be a special night for all LSU Tigers fans coming out to Globe Life Field as the Rangers will celebrate LSU Night.

Additionally, it’s yet another always popular Family Fun Tuesday. Families have the chance to enjoy discounts on ticket prices, parking, food, and drink through the Rangers' official website. Kids aged 13 and younger will also have the opportunity to meet select Rangers players at pre-game autograph sessions.

Autograph signing starts at 5:30 p.m., but guests are encouraged to line up as soon as the gates open. The number of autographs is limited.

When the action gets underway on the field, the Rangers will have one of the best of all time on the mound as Jacob deGrom is set to make his 18th start of the season.

Coming into play, deGrom holds a 7-5 record with a 3.48 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, and 115 strikeouts in 95.2 innings.

In his last start against the Cleveland Guardians on June 30, deGrom went seven innings, allowing just two runs.

On the other side, the Rangers hitters will be tasked with facing right-hander Jose Soriano who, after starting the season as one of baseball’s best pitchers, is still going strong, posting a 3.42 ERA in exactly 100 innings. Texas has not yet faced Soriano this season.

Entering play on Tuesday, the Rangers sit just 1.5 games back of first place the AL West despite their 45-45 record. Texas also holds a 1.5-game lead in the race for the AL’s final Wild Card spot.
