The Texas Rangers cashed in on a golden opportunity, taking down the Seattle Mariners 3-0 to complete a three-game sweep.
The Texas Rangers' season-opening homestand did not start out the way they wanted to by any means.
Texas was swept by the Cincinnati Reds, starting off a bleak 0-3 at Globe Life Field in 2026 and staring down a series with the defending American League West Division champion Seattle Mariners. But the Rangers managed to beat Seattle 3-0 on Wednesday, completing a three-game series sweep.
Not to mention, Seattle was scheduled to send star pitchers Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Bryan Woo to the mound.
Despite that, the Rangers had a golden opportunity to earn a sweep entering Wednesday afternoon’s matinee.
Texas cashed in on that golden opportunity.
With the win, the Rangers swept their first series against a divisional opponent in 2026 and marked their last series sweep against Seattle in a series of three or more games since 2023.
MacKenzie Gore got the start for the Rangers and, despite throwing a lot of pitches early, was able to settle in and turn in a great start.
Gore earned his second win of the season, going five shutout innings, allowing just one run and two walks while striking out nine.
All of the Rangers' offense came in the fifth inning as Texas capitalized on a bases-loaded error from Mariners first baseman Connor Joe to score two of their three runs.
Just pitches later, Corey Seager came through with a sacrifice fly to bring home the Rangers' final run of the afternoon.
Once again, the Rangers bullpen came up big to lock down the victory as three Texas relievers combined to pitch four shutout innings to secure the win.
Chris Martin came in for a lower leverage situation in the sixth inning and pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.
Luis Curvelo had an eye-opening performance, firing a pair of huge, perfect innings in the seventh and eighth innings.
Finally, Cole Winn came on and pitched a clean ninth inning after Jakob Junis was down following two straight saves.
With the win, the Rangers' record on the season improves to 7-5 following their third consecutive win.
Following this afternoon’s contest, the Rangers will have an off day on Thursday before taking on the back-to-back defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series at Dodger Stadium this weekend.
First pitch for Friday night’s game is scheduled for 9:10 PM CST, before an 8:10 PM CST game on Saturday and a 3:10 PM CST start on Sunday afternoon.
