The Texas Rangers scored early and often as they took down the Seattle Mariners 10-5 to open their final divisional series of the year.

It didn’t take the Texas Rangers bats very long to get going in their series opener against the Seattle Mariners.

As the second batter of the game, Corey Seager belted a solo home run to score the first of 10 Rangers runs in the team’s 10-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Following the Seager home run in the first, Nicky Lopez came through in the second with a two-out RBI single as part of a three-hit night.

“Nicky Lopez had a heck of a game,” Texas manager Skip Schumaker said after the game. “[In a] spot start, he hasn’t played in a while, and he gets three hits and makes a big defensive play.”

In the fourth, Justin Foscue came off the bench and delivered a two-RBI single to push the Rangers' lead to 4-0.

Seattle would strike for their only runs of the night against Texas starter Cal Quantrill in that same inning as Lazaro Montes crushed a 474 ft three-run home run to cut the lead to 4-3.

Quantrill has only that lone blemish as he went six innings, allowing just the three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four. It marked the eighth win of the season for the veteran right-hander.

“I think this is probably the worst that I’ve pitched in the last month and a half, but in the end, when we win, I don’t really care,” Quantrill said after the game. “I battled and made good pitches when I needed to make good pitches, so it is what it is.”

Despite his self-criticism, Quantrill’s manager was quick to give him flowers for his strong outing.

“It starts with starting pitching,” Schumaker said. “Cal Quantrill again, amazing August, great start of September and exactly what we needed to start a big series.”

The Rangers would use the long ball to crack open the game in the fifth as Wyatt Langford belted a solo shot, followed by a three-run home run off the bat of Danny Jansen to make it a 9-3 ballgame.

Following Quantrill’s strong outing, it was Robert Garcia who made his return to the big leagues and posted a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout. Adam Macko would pitch the game’s final two innings, allowing a pair of runs.

With the win, Texas would improve to 72-73 and claim their second consecutive win. Should they push their winning streak to three on Wednesday, the Rangers would return to .500.
