As May kicks off, the Texas Rangers will face a tough six-game road trip against the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees.
The first full month of the 2026 Major League Baseball season is officially in the books and, after an up-and-down month, the Texas Rangers find themselves sitting right around .500 with a 15-16 record.
As May kicks off, the Rangers will face a tough six-game road trip against the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees.
Following Thursday’s off day, the Rangers will kick off their series at Comerica Park in Detroit on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 5:40 PM CST. Saturday and Sunday will see first pitch at 6:15 and 6:20 PM CST, respectively.
Sunday night will mark the Rangers' first chance to play in front of a National TV audience, as the game will be featured on Peacock’s Sunday Night Baseball.
Every other game on the trip will be available for fans to watch on the Rangers Sports Network. On the radio side of things, 105.3 The Fan will carry every game of the trip, including Sunday Night Baseball.
The Rangers will get their first look at the 2026 Tigers in their weekend series, and they will get a bit lucky in doing so.
Superstar starting pitchers Tarik Skubal and Framber Valdez will both not pitch for Detroit in the series against the Rangers.
That will certainly be welcome news for a Rangers offense that comes into the trip scuffling, particularly with runners on base.
When the Rangers' plane lands in New York next week, it will mark the second time in just six days that Texas will face the Yankees.
After dropping two of three to New York at Globe Life Field, the Rangers will still have the opportunity to win the season series against the Yankees with a sweep at Yankee Stadium.
The Rangers may be without right fielder Brandon Nimmo for the start of the trip after he left the final game of the Yankees series with right hamstring tightness.
Nimmo feels confident that he will play on Friday night in the Motor City, but it remains to be seen how the Rangers will want to play that situation.
On the flip side, Texas should be getting back star left fielder Wyatt Langford at some point on the trip.
Langford has been out since May 21st with a right forearm flexor strain. The Rangers will no doubt hope the time off can springboard Langford’s success at the plate after he has struggled out of the gates.
