After taking the first game of the series on Monday, the Texas Rangers have a chance to earn at least series split on Wednesday night.
It’s pretty safe to say that Tuesday night in West Sacramento was not one that was very kind to the Texas Rangers.
Relievers Luis Curvelo and Chris Martin both reported injuries. The Rangers' offense scored just one run, MacKenzie Gore struggled, and Texas fell 2-1 to the Athletics.
After taking the first game of the series on Monday, the Rangers have a chance to earn at least a series split on Wednesday night.
Kumar Rocker will take the mound for the Rangers after an up-and-down last start, going five innings, allowing three earned runs.
Rocker was able to notch five strikeouts and walked just two. After a struggle from Gore last night, the Rangers will look for a solid start from Rocker tonight.
The Rangers also may need Rocker to give them some length, depending on what their bullpen situation looks like.
Texas will certainly be without Curvelo and Martin amidst a bullpen that is already somewhat running on fumes.
Depending on Curvelo’s situation, the Rangers may need to replace him with someone in their minor league system to get some additional coverage.
Wednesday night marks the Rangers' sixth game against an AL West opponent this season, with the team entering at a 5-1 clip.
There’s no doubt that if the Rangers can continue their domination against the division, they will find themselves in a good spot come September.
After being largely shut down by Jeffery Springs last night, the Rangers will face right-hander JT Ginn tonight.
Ginn has yet to pitch into the fifth inning in any game this season, but pitched four innings of one-hit baseball in his last outing.
There’s no doubt the Rangers will be taxed as the road trip heads for its end this weekend. Texas is in the midst of a nine-game, nine-day trip.
As they say, there will be no rest for the weary, as the Rangers will have an off-day on Monday before beginning a nine-game, nine-day homestand at Globe Life Field.
For now, the Rangers will have their sights focused on West Sacramento and the Athletics as they look to wrap up the series with a win.
Texas currently enters play at 9-8, tied with the Athletics for first place in the very early-season AL West standings.
If you’re an early season standings watcher, there is no doubt that this series is certinally right up your alley.
Even if the Rangers aren’t standings watching in April, they will want to find a way to secure a series victory.
