Spring Training rolled on for the Texas Rangers on Friday afternoon as they welcomed their American League West Division rival Seattle Mariners to Surprise Staduim.

Things did not go as planned for the Rangers as they fell 5-1, dropping their Cactus League record to 8-6.

With the loss, the Rangers' four-game win streak came to an end. Texas also had a 13-2 win against Team Brazil sprinkled into the streak, but that did not count as an official Cactus League game, given it was against a World Baseball Classic opponent.

As for Friday, Jack Leiter took the mound as he continues to ramp up for his second full MLB season.

Leiter went 3 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two runs while not walking a single batter and striking out four.

“I felt good.” Leiter said after his outing. “[The] Plan was like it always is in Spring Training, be on the attack and let all the pitches play. The past week, I worked on changeups because in my last outing, I only threw two of them, so it was a focus, and I felt like I threw a lot of good ones.”

Behind Leiter, Jacob Junis threw 1 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, two hits, and one walk. Josh Sborz also pitched yet another clean inning as he continued his strong Spring in an attempt to crack the Opening Day roster.

Offensively, it was a day of regulars sprinkled into the lineup as Brandon Nimmo led off the game and played right field.

Evan Carter hit third and played center field while providing the big swing of the afternoon on a home run to center field for the Rangers' lone run.

Joc Pederson got yet another start over at first base. Danny Jansen got the nod behind the plate, and Ezequiel Duran got a day at second base and recorded a hit.

Mark Canah got the start in left field and made a really nice play defensively. Michael Helman got a look at shortstop as the Rangers continue to expand his versatility as he prepares for a possible bench role.

The Rangers will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Scottsdale, Arizona, to take on the San Francisco Giants.

Texas has 14 Spring Training games left in Arizona before they take on the Kansas City Royals in a pair of exhibition contests at Globe Life Field to wrap up Spring Training.
